Wacom Inkling: Sketch on paper and transfer to PC

Wacom did it again, sketch on paper and transfer to PC as raster or vector data. Not that the idea is new but the execution is flawless.

Wacom's new product the "Inkling" does not need special paper or ink to take track of your sketching/writing, it uses a little box and a pen containing a standard 1mm ballpoint reservoir that communicates via infra-red and ultrasonic transmission data.

The Inkling accepts any paper in sizes from A7 to A4 and gives you also 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity. One other great feature is the capability of creating layers on the fly. Imagine designing a car, while sketching you can create a new virtual layer for wheels, body and what not...

We do a lot of sketching to keep ideas and concepts, then we decide to throw stuff out or develop further on specific drawings. The Inkling gives us the possibility to store our work, review it in the Inkling management software then output it as raster or vector data to work on it in Photoshop/Illustrator/Autodesk Sketchbook...there you can use the vector data to refine your work. You even can play back your sketch in a timeline and select a new starting point of your sketch, Wow!

For a price of around 160 Euros it's a no brainer. Inkling will be released mid September.
